Police have listed failure to control speed as a possible cause of the accident. Toyota Avalons have been known to have gas pedal acceleration problems and that is being investigated to determine if that played a role in this accident.
The tragic story is fresh from the national and worldwide voluntary safety Toyota Recalls of eight models from Toyota. Toyota has recently released a Toyota recall list 2010 edition for several million of its vehicles due to safety hazard. The affected models of Toyota have a problem with its gas pedals that becomes sticky at times and are harder to press down. The pedals may stay down and come back up at a slower pace than normal. The list of affected models from Toyota includes certain Corolla and Matrix models, Toyota’s 2009-2010 RAV4, 2005-2010 Avalons, 2007-2010 Tundra, 2008-2009 Sequoia, 2010 Highlander and some of 2007-2008 Camry cars.
However, there are no Lexus or Scion models that are affected by this recall. Toyota claims to working around the clock with engineers to find a solution to this problem which could have fatal consequences if not corrected. Drivers experiencing problems with their gas pedals should immediately pool over and stop the vehicle.
