Toyota May Face Stiff Fines for Failing to Recall Vehicles in a Timely Manner

Toyota is being investigated by the Federal Government to ascertain whether or not recalls affecting 6 million vehicles were timely carried out. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has requested internal company documents in order to find out when Toyota learned about problems with its vehicles that led to recalls in 2007, 2009 and 2010. Toyota faces up to $16.4 million dollars in fines.

Congress is also looking into the Toyota recall situation, as well as whether the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration handled the matter properly.

Our lawfirm filed a class action lawsuit against Toyota on January 29, 2010 in the Southern District of Texas – Corpus Christi Division, so we are eagerly awaiting the results of the Federal probe into Toyota’s handling of the recalls.
